"Painful Love" Luisa Deflorian · 2025
This painting speaks of the pain that comes when a choice is made out of love. Loving does not always mean staying, holding on, or trying to mend what has been broken. Sometimes it means accepting distance, giving up something we long for, letting go of a person or a possibility because, painful as it is, we believe it is the right thing to do.The dark forms seem close, almost drawn toward each other, yet a white space remains between them. It is the place where the decision lives: an emptiness that does not erase the bond, but makes visible what can no longer be as it was. The black carries the weight of loss, fear, and regret. The gold holds what remains precious despite the pain: the love that gave meaning to the choice.I do not want to portray a love that has ended, or suffering without hope. I want to show how much it can cost to choose honestly when no path allows us to save everything. Within this fracture, hurt and tenderness coexist, as do the longing to move closer and the need to stop.Here, pain is not the opposite of love. It is the trace love leaves when it asks us to choose.
